The White House confirmed Thursday that Trump will keynote the exclusive TRUMP memecoin gala at Mar-a-Lago on April 25. The confirmation ends weeks of uncertainty. Fight Fight Fight LLC, the company behind the TRUMP token, had left his attendance in doubt. The event’s own terms stated Trump “may not be able to attend.” The gala “may be canceled for any reason,” the disclaimer read. Both are now gone.
The TRUMP token and the price of access
Only the top 297 TRUMP token holders can attend. The top 29 get a private reception with the president himself. The more coin you hold, the closer you get to the most powerful person in the world.
This is the second such event. The first was in May 2025 at a Trump golf club in Virginia. Around 220 token holders attended and reportedly brought in $148 million. That dinner drew immediate criticism from Democrats and ethics watchdogs who called it a pay-to-play scheme. Saturday’s gala will also feature crypto entrepreneurs and Mike Tyson.
Critics call it corruption; Trump calls it legal
Senators Warren, Blumenthal and Schiff wrote to Fight Fight Fight LLC questioning whether Trump plans to “dangle access” to himself for coin purchases that profit him directly. “It is essential that Congress fully understand the extent to which President Trump and his family are profiting off of his cryptocurrency ventures,” the letter read.
Richard Painter, former chief ethics adviser to President George W. Bush, was more direct. He told The Guardian the event is “a dangerous conflict of interest” and “a use of public office for private gain.” He went further: it meets “the original understanding of the meaning of the word bribery” in the constitution’s impeachment clause.
The White House’s response: Trump is “abiding by all conflict-of-interest laws that are applicable to the president.”
Who’s actually making money on TRUMP
Not everyone holding the TRUMP token has made money. A February industry report found the TRUMP and MELANIA memecoins wiped out an estimated $4.3 billion in retail wealth. Around 2 million holders are currently underwater. Meanwhile, 45 early wallets profited approximately $1.2 billion combined.
The gap is stark. Trump’s crypto ventures have reportedly boosted his personal wealth by at least $3 billion, per Forbes. That includes World Liberty Financial, co-run by his sons Eric and Don Jr. Past presidents placed their assets in blind trusts to avoid exactly this kind of scrutiny. Trump has not. His response, when pressed in January, was to tell the New York Times he has a “very honest family.”
The lawyers can argue all they want about the impeachment clause. But forget that for a second. Two million people are currently underwater on this coin, and some of them probably bought more just to qualify for todayโs gala. The same token thatโs been bleeding retail investors dry is the price of admission to a private lunch with the president.
Make that make sense!
