1CoinDesk reported a nearly $5 billion Deribit cluster at the $70,000 and $72,000 BTC strikes.
2Live Deribit data shows 76,229 BTC in calls and 4,961 BTC in puts at those two strikes.
3BTC trades near $64,112, so $70,000 is still 9.2% above the live Binance futures price.
4Polymarket CLARITY Act odds have dropped from 51% early this week to 38%, per CoinDesk.
Market context at 00.05 CEST. BTC traded at $64,111.90 on Binance futures, 1.57% lower over 24 hours. The 24-hour range was $63,666 to $65,780. Binance futures volume was $9.74 billion, while open interest stood at 106,195 BTC, or about $6.81 billion. Source, Binance and CoinGecko.
Bitcoin options cluster turns into a policy test
The fresh catalyst is Deribit positioning. CoinDesk’s options desk described it on July 24. Its report said the $70,000 and $72,000 strikes held nearly $5 billion of notional open interest. The same report tied part of that demand to hopes around the CLARITY Act.
That matters because the policy clock is no longer clean. A separate CoinDesk policy report said Senate timing is slipping. CoinDesk also cited Polymarket odds at 38%, down from 51% earlier this week.
The trade is therefore less comfortable than the headline sounds. Calls dominate the book, but the price still has to climb through a weak spot tape. That is the real overnight setup for U.S. readers.

Live book shows calls still ahead of puts
CryptoFocus pulled Deribit’s public BTC options summary during this run. The $70,000 strike showed 37,745 BTC of call open interest against 3,760 BTC of puts. The $72,000 strike showed 38,484 BTC of calls against 1,201 BTC of puts.
Combined, those two strikes carry about $4.89 billion of call exposure at the live Binance price. That is 15.4 times the put exposure at the same strikes. It is also 50.2% of Binance BTCUSDT 24-hour futures turnover.
This is the CryptoFocus calculation that changes the read. The option wall is large in Deribit terms. It also matters beside the busiest BTC futures venue.
Spot market has not confirmed the bet yet
CoinGecko’s top-10 market snapshot put BTC near $64,086. Its 24-hour low was $63,700. Total BTC volume was about $27.32 billion, after Friday’s leverage flush. The wider crypto market cap was about $2.27 trillion.
Binance’s futures ticker was a little more cautious. It showed BTC below the 24-hour open, with the high at $65,780. Its open-interest endpoint put BTC futures open interest near $6.81 billion.
The distance is easy to miss. A move to $70,000 needs about 9.2% from the live futures price. A move to $72,000 needs about 12.3%. That is possible in crypto, but it is not a small drift.
What U.S. and EU holders should watch
For U.S. traders, this is mainly a timing story, after the ETF outflow streak. If CLARITY Act headlines improve before month-end, the call-heavy book can amplify a move. If the policy window slips again, some of that upside premium can bleed out quickly.
For Dutch and EU holders, the practical link is risk management. A Bitvavo or other MiCA-facing investor still sees the same global BTC price, but not the same product access. Options positioning can move the spot price without being directly tradable for every retail account.
That makes position size more important than the strike headline. On a 1,000 euro BTC position, a 9.2% move toward $70,000 would be about 92 euro. Fees matter. The same distance lower would hurt just as fast. This is illustrative, not advice.
What decides the next move
The clean signal would be BTC reclaiming the upper end of its 24-hour range. Deribit calls also need to stay open. That would mean the options wall is being defended by fresh market demand. A weaker signal would be call open interest falling while spot remains below $65,780.
There is also a macro filter. Oil headlines and the next Federal Reserve meeting still sit over risk assets. If traders bought those strikes for a policy burst, the calendar now has to help rather than stall.
CryptoFocus read
---
1Upside trigger, BTC trades through $65,780 with call open interest intact.
2Risk trigger, CLARITY odds keep falling while spot stays below $65,000.
3Original calculation, live $70,000 and $72,000 call exposure equals 50.2% of Binance futures turnover.
4Reader use, treat the strike cluster as a volatility map, not as a price forecast.
