Bitcoin tweet volume shows a quiet tape
The Block’s Data and Insights newsletter says Bitcoin and Ethereum keyword volume fell to fresh 12-month lows. The article puts Bitcoin near 130,000 mentions and Ethereum near 40,000. It says comparable attention has not been seen since 2020. That was before spot ETFs and corporate treasury strategies became normal market plumbing.
That makes this a market-structure story, not a social-media trivia item. Public attention has cooled while institutional channels remain part of daily price discovery. Recent CryptoFocus coverage of Bitcoin ETF flows showed how fund demand can shape the tape. That can happen even when retail traders step back.
The leverage did not leave with the chatter
CryptoFocus marked Binance BTCUSDT open interest at $6,632,306,971. ETHUSDT open interest stood near $3,893,049,924. Together, that is about $10,525,356,895 of futures exposure against roughly 170,000 combined daily mentions in The Block’s snapshot.
The calculation is blunt. It equals about $61,914 of Binance BTC and ETH futures open interest for every daily tweet mention. That does not predict direction. It shows why a quiet social tape can still produce sharp liquidation moves. Macro data or ETF flows can still surprise traders.

Funding is not screaming excess. Binance showed BTC funding near 0.0099%, while ETH funding was slightly negative at -0.0012%. The cleaner reading is that attention is thin, but positioning is still large enough to matter.
Why U.S. traders should care before CPI
The U.S. hook is timing. This attention low comes before the June CPI release, which can quickly reset dollar rates, Treasury yields and risk appetite. Bitcoin has already slipped from its 24-hour high near $64,230 to the low $61,849 area.
For a U.S. investor using ETFs or a regulated exchange, low social attention can cut both ways. It can mean fewer momentum buyers are ready to chase a rebound. It can also mean panic is not crowded yet, which matters if inflation lands softer than expected.
The global crypto market cap is about $2,216,736,919,730, with 24-hour volume near $69,978,566,817. Bitcoin dominance is 55.9%, and Ethereum dominance is 9.6%, according to CoinGecko. That keeps BTC and ETH at the center of the market even when the conversation around them is unusually quiet.
What to watch next
The first test is whether Bitcoin keeps the $61,849 area after CPI. The second is whether Ethereum can hold above $1,753 while social attention is weak. A break in either level would turn this from a quiet-attention story into a leverage story.
The better signal may come from flows, not posts. Watch ETF demand, Binance open interest and funding after the U.S. data lands. If mentions stay low while open interest rises, the market will be leaning harder on fewer visible buyers.

1Retail attention is weak, but BTC and ETH still dominate market cap.
2Open interest near $10,525,356,895 makes macro surprises more important.
3Low tweet volume does not prove capitulation or accumulation by itself.
4The next check is CPI, then ETF flows and Binance funding.
