1Borderless.xyz says stablecoin delivery priced below interbank FX through Q2 2026.
2The benchmark covers 260 corridors, 108 countries and 2.96 million rate observations.
3A $10,000 payment cost $27.20 on the median route, but $3.00 on the best route.
4DeFiLlama puts live stablecoin supply near $309.7 billion, with USDT and USDC at about 83.1%.
Market context at 02:10 CEST. Stablecoins tracked by DeFiLlama carry about $309.7 billion in circulating supply. USDT stands near $184.2 billion and USDC near $73.2 billion, together about 83.1% of the category. CoinGecko shows the total crypto market near $2.23 trillion, with 24-hour volume around $70.4 billion.
Why stablecoin FX crossed a line
The Block reported the Q2 figures on July 13 at 10:01 a.m. EDT, citing the Borderless.xyz benchmark. The original Borderless report says the parity gap, its measure versus interbank FX, was -3.2 basis points for the quarter. In June, that gap reached -5.9 basis points.
The benchmark matters because interbank FX is normally not available to ordinary businesses. It is the rate banks use with each other. Borderless compares stablecoin delivery against that same daily reference, then includes provider pricing, local rails and taxes where available.
The network is broad enough to make the claim hard to ignore. Borderless counted 260 corridors, 377 payout routes and 131 local rails on file. Completed Q2 deliveries used 22 schemes, including PIX, SPEI, ACH, SEPA and FPS.
The routing tax is the real story
The strong number is not the headline parity gap. It is the difference between average routing and best execution. Borderless puts the Q2 routing tax at 23.3 basis points, equal to $2,330 per $1 million moved.
CryptoFocus calculated the smaller-ticket version from the same table. On a $10,000 payment, the median cost was $27.20. The best route cost $3.00. That is an 89% reduction, or $24.20 saved on one payment before any treasury team scales the flow.

That is why single-provider setups look dated. The report says the cheapest provider changed every few days in busy corridors. In Brazilian real routing, the cheapest USDT provider changed 34 times in 88 days.
This is familiar market structure dressed as payments infrastructure. Stablecoins handle the settlement asset. Routing software decides whether the payer actually captures the quoted efficiency.
What this means for U.S. and global users
For a U.S. company paying contractors or merchants abroad, the message is practical. A stablecoin balance alone does not guarantee the best delivered price. The corridor, provider, asset, chain and local rail all matter.
That also explains why this is not just an emerging-market story. The report says Europe moved from weaker corridor grades toward B ratings across dozens of receiving countries. The previous Q1 benchmark already framed stablecoin FX as a production question, not a pilot question.
Crypto investors should read the data with care. It supports the case for payment demand around USDC and USDT, but it does not make every stablecoin project valuable. The live market remains concentrated, with DeFiLlama data showing the two largest dollar tokens holding most supply.
The market risk sits in thin corridors
The report is not a victory lap. The Africa median spread widened 165.7 basis points to 512.8 basis points in Q2. Malawi was the harshest example, with spreads around 1,975 basis points after an April repricing.
That split matters for public crypto markets. Stablecoin payment growth can improve real-world usage, but thin corridors still carry fragile liquidity. If a route has no backup provider, a sudden repricing becomes the market price.
CryptoFocus has covered stablecoin adoption from the Bolivia USDT plan to the Thailand USDT controls. This Borderless data adds the missing payment layer. Adoption is useful, but operational routing decides whether stablecoin rails beat banks in practice.
What to watch next
---
1Whether the June parity gap of -5.9 basis points continues in Q3.
2Whether Europe keeps improving from C and D corridor grades toward B.
3Whether USDC and USDT pricing splits stay small across the largest routes.
4Whether payment firms can route dynamically instead of staying with one provider.
One older CryptoFocus thread still applies: stablecoin payments are growing, but the user experience remains the test. The next data point is whether the Q3 benchmark shows lower routing tax, not just another month below interbank rates.
