Xryma Plc plans to start issuing its euro token XREUR on September 3. The launch will offer a practical test of a question that regulation alone cannot answer: can a MiCA-aligned euro stablecoin win a place in everyday payment flows?

What you need to know
1Xryma says public issuance of XREUR will begin on September 3, 2026.
2The company notified its crypto-asset whitepaper to the Central Bank of Cyprus on June 29.
3XREUR is presented as a euro electronic money token that can be redeemed at par with the issuer.
4Reserve quality, redemption speed, distribution and merchant use still need to be demonstrated after launch.

The Cyprus-based electronic money institution says customers and businesses will be able to subscribe for XREUR through open banking, the Eurosystem’s T2 settlement service or a merchant API. Those claims come from Xryma and have yet to be tested in a live product. The first evidence will be whether issuance begins on time and whether users can redeem at par without friction.

What has been verified

Xryma announced the planned launch on July 27. Its release says the company notified an Article 51 whitepaper to the Central Bank of Cyprus on June 29 and notified custody and transfer services on July 8. The same release sets September 3 as the intended first day of public issuance.

Notification is not the same as regulatory approval of every claim in a whitepaper. Xryma’s own release makes that distinction: the issuer remains responsible for the document’s contents. The Central Bank of Cyprus publishes registers and supervises electronic money institutions, but a notified whitepaper should not be read as a product endorsement.

Xryma says XREUR will be minted on demand, backed by reserves at EU credit institutions and redeemable at par. It also promises external assurance and near-real-time reserve reporting. Until those reports are public and redemptions have been completed by real users, they remain commitments rather than operating history.

Why the payment routes matter

Most stablecoin activity still begins and ends inside crypto markets. Xryma is aiming at a different route. It wants users to move between euros and XREUR through account-to-account open banking, SEPA-related services, T2 and merchant integrations. A useful product would have to make that route cheaper, faster or easier to reconcile than existing bank payments.

That is a demanding comparison. European businesses already have instant bank transfers, card acquiring and established treasury systems. Adding a token creates new questions about wallets, key management, transaction monitoring and accounting. XREUR will need to solve a concrete payment problem rather than merely reproduce a euro balance on a blockchain.

Cross-border payout may be the stronger test. Xryma says its wider payment infrastructure can support euro redemption and multicurrency payouts to more than 60 countries. The useful measurements will be total cost, settlement time, failed-payment rates and the number of independent merchants or platforms that integrate the token.

Four checks after September 3

First, the company must publish clear reserve evidence. Readers should be able to see who holds the backing assets, what those assets are and how often an independent party checks them. A percentage claim without a dated report is not enough.

Second, redemption needs to work outside a demonstration. The decisive question is whether an eligible holder can return XREUR directly to the issuer at par, what fees apply and how long the euro transfer takes.

Third, distribution should extend beyond Xryma’s own website. Wallet support, exchange access and merchant integrations will show whether XREUR has an independent market. Fourth, CryptoFocus will look for live volumes and recurring payment use. Issuance figures alone can be inflated by short-lived treasury movements.

A successful launch would add another regulated euro option to a market dominated by dollar tokens. A quiet launch would be equally informative: MiCA can define the legal route for an electronic money token, but it cannot create demand.

FAQ

What is XREUR?

XREUR is the planned euro-denominated electronic money token from Xryma Plc. The issuer says one token will reference one euro and will be redeemable at par.

When is XREUR due to launch?

Xryma has announced September 3, 2026 as the first day of public issuance. CryptoFocus has not yet seen evidence of live issuance because that date has not arrived.

Did the Central Bank of Cyprus approve the whitepaper?

Xryma says it notified the whitepaper to the Central Bank of Cyprus. Its release also states that the document has not been approved by a competent authority and that Xryma is responsible for its contents.

What should users check before buying XREUR?

Check the current whitepaper, redemption terms, fees, wallet support and dated reserve reports. Product claims should be compared with live service conditions after September 3.
