BVNK says businesses are starting to use embedded stablecoin wallets as a parallel dollar-banking layer for cross-border payments, rather than only as crypto trading infrastructure. The company published new platform data showing embedded wallet volume rose 263x during 2025, while payment service providers and fintechs became its largest customer segment.

The CryptoFocus read is simple: this is another sign that stablecoins are moving into the payment stack behind apps, payroll platforms, PSPs and treasury workflows. The claim still needs customer-level proof, regulation and transparent cost comparisons, but the direction matters because stablecoin wallets are starting to look less like standalone crypto accounts and more like product infrastructure.

What happened
1BVNK published new PRNewswire data on embedded stablecoin wallets for businesses.
2The company says embedded wallet volume increased 263x during 2025.
3BVNK says half of all platform transactions now happen outside standard banking hours.
4After-hours transaction volume rose from $2.65 billion to $8.83 billion year-on-year.
5Payment service providers and fintechs now account for 75% of BVNK platform volume.
6BVNK names Corpay, Ontop, Meow and TransferMate as customers using similar wallet capabilities.

Why BVNK is framing wallets as dollar infrastructure

The BVNK release is not about a new consumer token. It is about embedded accounts. In BVNK’s framing, a company can add digital dollar balances to its own product and then let users hold, send, receive and convert stablecoins across borders without waiting for a bank cut-off time.

Chris Harmse, BVNK co-founder and chief business officer, described stablecoin wallets as a proxy for a global dollar account. That is the important phrase. For payment companies, payroll platforms, marketplaces and fintech apps, the stablecoin layer becomes invisible infrastructure if it works: the user sees a balance and a payment option, while the provider manages custody, conversion, compliance checks and settlement partners in the background.

BVNK says it processes more than $36 billion in annualised payment volume. Its new data also says after-hours transaction volume rose from $2.65 billion to $8.83 billion, with after-hours flow increasing from 24% to 31% of total platform volume. That does not prove stablecoins replace banks. It does show why companies with global payment needs are testing rails that operate when correspondent banking is closed.

The customer mix is the stronger signal

The most useful part of the release is the customer-mix shift. BVNK says payment service providers and fintechs have overtaken retail trading firms as its largest customer segment, accounting for 75% of platform volume. If accurate, that is a stronger infrastructure signal than another headline about stablecoin supply.

Trading firms use stablecoins because crypto markets settle in stablecoins. PSPs and fintechs use them only if they solve a payments problem: funding accounts faster, offering dollar-like balances, paying suppliers, serving freelancers, moving treasury balances or reducing pre-funded account pressure. BVNK’s own wallet guide describes embedded stablecoin wallets as a model where a partner can use its digital-asset licence to deliver services under another company’s brand, while handling KYC, AML screening, custody and regulatory standards.

That is where CryptoFocus sees the commercial question. Stablecoin adoption is no longer only about whether people want USDC or USDT. It is about which companies can package stablecoin rails into familiar financial products without forcing users to understand network selection, wallet recovery, transaction finality or cross-border liquidity.

Where this fits in the wider stablecoin market

BVNK’s stablecoin utility report, produced with YouGov, Coinbase and Artemis, surveyed more than 4,600 stablecoin users across 15 countries. BVNK says users want stablecoin payments to feel normal, with broad acceptance, simpler user experience and built-in security. The report also says 77% of surveyed holders would open a stablecoin wallet if their bank or fintech app offered one.

The company’s 2026 wallet strategy guide adds market context from Visa Onchain Analytics, stating that active stablecoin wallet addresses increased 1,300% in five years, with the note that readers should check Visa’s dashboard for the latest figures. CryptoFocus treats those numbers as useful directionally, but they still need to be separated from real business payment adoption. An active wallet address is not the same as a paying enterprise customer.

CryptoFocus has already covered adjacent stablecoin-payment stories, including Mercuryo’s stablecoin payment data, PhotonPay’s Africa payment report and Visa’s stablecoin platform expansion. The BVNK story belongs in the same trend, but with a sharper enterprise-wallet angle.

What still needs proof

The main caveat is that BVNK is publishing proprietary platform data. The release does not include an independently audited transaction dataset, customer-by-customer adoption curve or full pricing comparison against correspondent banking, card networks, local instant-payment schemes or other stablecoin infrastructure providers.

There are also regulatory and operational questions. Embedded wallets can be custodial or self-custodial. They can connect to fiat rails such as Swift, SEPA, ACH or Fedwire. They can support several networks and stablecoins. Each model changes who is responsible for custody, user onboarding, financial-crime monitoring, redemption, consumer disclosure and complaint handling.

That is not a reason to dismiss the trend. It is the real test. Stablecoin wallets will become payment infrastructure only if they can be made boring: reliable, compliant, reconciled, understandable and cheap enough to beat the incumbent route for a specific use case.

What to watch next
1Whether BVNK publishes more granular data on wallet volumes by region, use case and customer type.
2Whether named customers such as Corpay, Ontop, Meow or TransferMate disclose measurable settlement gains.
3Whether European rules under MiCA and payment-services law make embedded stablecoin wallets easier or harder to scale.
4Whether banks and fintech apps launch stablecoin wallets directly, rather than leaving the category to crypto-native providers.
5Whether after-hours volume keeps rising once stablecoin payments move from pilots into ordinary operating finance.

FAQ

What did BVNK announce?

BVNK published new platform data saying embedded stablecoin wallet volume increased 263x during 2025 and that PSPs and fintechs now make up 75% of its platform volume.

Why do stablecoin wallets matter for businesses?

They can let companies offer dollar-like balances, cross-border transfers and conversion inside their own product, while payment and compliance infrastructure runs behind the scenes.

Does this mean stablecoins are replacing banks?

No. The better reading is that stablecoins are becoming an additional rail beside banks, especially for after-hours, cross-border and platform-embedded payment flows.

What is the main risk in BVNK’s claim?

The release is based on BVNK’s proprietary platform data. Readers should watch for audited figures, customer case studies, regulatory disclosures and direct cost comparisons.

Why is this relevant for CryptoFocus readers?

It shows stablecoins moving from exchange balances into payment, payroll, treasury and fintech products. That is where regulation, adoption and business-model risk become more important than token hype.
