1Bitwise says Solana handled 9.8 billion non-vote transactions in Q2 2026.
2About 427 million SOL was staked, equal to 68 percent of supply.
3SOL is down 59.6 percent over one year in CoinGecko's live snapshot.
4Binance Futures shows 8.31 million SOL in open interest, about $625.2 million.
Market context at 00.29 CEST. SOL traded at $75.20 on Binance, 1.545 percent lower over 24 hours. The 24-hour range ran from $75.03 to $77.50, with $116.89 million in spot quote volume. Binance Futures showed 8.31 million SOL in open interest and a funding rate of -0.000069 percent. Bitcoin traded near $64,576 in the CoinGecko top-10 snapshot.
Solana usage has the wrong price signal
The quarter has a split between network use and token value. Bitwise’s Q3 staking report makes that plain. Ethereum, Solana and Avalanche became busier or cheaper, while fee revenue fell. The report says lower fees were partly the point. Networks made blockspace cheaper, and demand rose in response.
That is useful for users. It is harder for token holders. Solana’s non-vote transactions reached 10.1 billion in Q1 and 9.8 billion in Q2. Bitwise calls that resilient demand. Yet CoinGecko data still shows SOL 59.6 percent below its level from a year ago.
The tension is clear. More activity does not automatically mean more value for SOL. If the next upgrade lowers costs again, the chain may win users while the token waits for better value capture.

Staking stays high while fees thin out
The primary Bitwise figure is the staking base. The report says 427 million SOL was staked out of 628 million SOL supply. That puts Solana’s staking ratio at 68 percent. It also says Avalanche stood at 41 percent, Near at 45 percent and Hyperliquid at 44 percent.
Ethereum gives the cross-check. Bitwise says a record 40.2 million ETH was staked, equal to 33 percent of supply. Ethereum processed 26 transactions per second, up from 15 a year earlier. Its network revenue was about $64 million in Q2, down 51 percent year over year in dollar terms.
Solana’s own app layer did not escape the fee squeeze. The Bitwise PDF says Solana applications generated $227 million in Q2, down from $328 million in Q1. Pump and Collector Crypt together produced $122.3 million. That means two apps made about 53.9 percent of the reported top app revenue.
The CryptoFocus calculation behind the trade
The live derivatives market is not ignoring the story. Binance open interest showed 8.31 million SOL, worth about $625.2 million at $75.20. That equals roughly 3.7 times Binance’s 24-hour SOL spot turnover of $116.89 million. It is also about 1.4 percent of Solana’s live market cap.
That comparison matters because the report is not a price forecast. It is a stress test for the market’s patience. Traders have meaningful leverage open, but funding was almost flat at -0.000069 percent, according to Binance funding data. The market is positioned, but not paying much for a clear long bias.
There is another scale check. The staked 427 million SOL is about 51 times larger than current Binance SOL open interest. Staking shows long-term network commitment. Perpetuals show near-term risk appetite. Right now those signals do not say the same thing.
Why U.S. investors should care
The U.S. hook is ETF and treasury access. Solana already sits in the institutional conversation through ETF products, custody work and corporate treasury bets. But an access wrapper does not solve value capture. Investors still need to know whether cheaper blockspace helps SOL, or only the applications running on top of it.
That is why this story lands differently from another protocol update. A U.S. buyer can be right about Solana activity and still be early on SOL. The same problem shows up in Ethereum staking debates and in treasury driven ETH trades. Network fundamentals and token returns can split for months.
The next datapoint is Solana’s Alpenglow upgrade, targeted for Q3 2026 in the Bitwise report. Faster finality could help users and market makers. For SOL holders, the narrower test is value capture. Better performance must lift fees, staking economics or demand enough to offset cheaper blockspace.
