Coinbase Exchange provides an eight-hour setup window when withdrawal whitelisting is first enabled. Addresses added during that window can be used immediately. Coinbase.com documents a two-day waiting period instead. The product name is therefore the first detail to settle when preparing a withdrawal: the Exchange exception belongs to its own address-book rules.
What you need to know
---
Coinbase.com documents a 48-hour wait before an added address can receive sends.
Coinbase Exchange permits immediate use of addresses added in its initial eight-hour window.
After that Exchange window, a new address faces a 48-hour hold.
The Exchange address hold applies to using that destination, rather than to the cryptocurrency itself.
Coinbase.com: two days after adding an address
The Coinbase.com allowlist guide tells users to enable the feature in settings and add the destination. It specifies a two-day wait for sends and directs users to the address book’s date column for availability. It also requires access to the account’s two-step verification method when activating, deactivating or using allowlisting.
The separate Coinbase Exchange address-book guide describes an onboarding exception.
Existing saved addresses become approved immediately when whitelisting is enabled. For the following eight hours, newly added destinations can also be used immediately. Once that window closes, additions must wait two days. The Exchange guide says the initial window also applies to new users whose whitelisting is enabled by default.
Comparing the pages changes the practical preparation step: identify the product first, then check that destination’s status. The retail guide does not offer the Exchange page’s immediate-use setup exception for newly added addresses. An instruction found under the same company name can therefore answer the wrong account’s question.
Exchange: the initial eight-hour window
The Exchange documentation explicitly separates the address waiting period from the cryptocurrency held in the account. It says buying and selling remain possible. A destination still waiting for approval cannot receive a withdrawal under this setting. That distinction helps diagnose a failed transfer: first inspect the selected address’s approval state, rather than assuming the entire balance is frozen.
Turning the feature off is not generally an immediate workaround. Both pages describe a 48-hour delay, with an exception during the first eight hours after activation. Removing that protection also changes which destinations the account can use; do not disable it merely to discover whether an address is ready.
Use the availability shown for the destination in the relevant account to plan the withdrawal. Where that status differs from the matching help page, verified support needs to resolve the account-specific restriction. The documents establish the address-list rules described here; they do not establish the completion time of an individual transfer.
